Salem’s Historic Interpretive Sign Panels
The City is excited to announce the upcoming installation of three new historic interpretive sign panels! In spring 2019, the City installed two new panels in Lafayette Park in South Salem and a new panel in Mack Park in North Salem. These signs joined panels installed by the City in 2017 to honor the historic historic neighborhoods of Salem Common, Downtown Salem North, Downtown Salem South, the McIntire District, and West Salem and a panel installed to celebrate the accomplishments of the Remond family at Remond Park on Bridge Street Neck. Previously, the City also installed panels in the Point Neighborhood in South Salem, along the South River Harborwalk and at Winter Island.
Salem’s historic interpretive sign panels were funded in part by grants from the Essex National Heritage Commission and the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
New signs were recently installed at the Washington Arch on the Salem Common. More signs are planned for the neighborhoods of North Salem, South Salem, Castle Hill, Blubber Hollow, Bridge Street Neck, Greenlawn Cemetery and the Willows. Check back for more information on the status of these signs.
