Salem Together During Times of Disaster

Over the course of its history, disasters in Salem have included both natural and manmade episodes. Hurricanes, blizzards, floods, fires and other natural disasters have forever altered the landscape of the city and have also shown the resilient character of local residents.

Human-made disasters have also had a lasting impact on Salem. It is during these times that preservationists have rallied to stop the impending demolition of an historic building or in the case of urban renewal, the demolition of an entire downtown.
